Vacation Update

It has been very busy this past month. We took 2 weeks vacation and went to see Mom and Dad in Ontario. Shelley and her kids were visiting at the same time. Wayne (Laura Jayne’s Dad) was gracious enough to lend us his truck and a 27 foot trailer to get there. It was awesome to have that setup as we would drive about 2-3 hours, stop for lunch in the trailer at a park and then continue on. It also gave us something to sleep in as Mom and Dad’s house was full already with Shelley’s family.

We stopped in Woodstock the first night at Yogi Bear’s campsite. It was great for the kids but being work up in the morning to Yogi Bear announcements was not the greatest thing. We won’t stay there again. The next spot was in Levi, just outside of Quebec City and it was a really nice clean campsite with lots of play areas for the kids.

We got to Mom and Dad’s and I had to back up the trailer into the driveway. For those of you that have not done this before, backing up a trailer for the first time can be a real tough. The trailer started to scrape the driveway a bit. Dad told me to gun it and I tore 2, 4 foot long, 6 inch deep grooves into his driveway and got stuck. Meanwhile the front end of the truck is in the middle of the road and an OC Transport bus is trying to get through. I had to quickly move forward and go around the block to try again. Meanwhile the kids are all crying and wondering we just left Grandma’s house. I returned, gunned it again and now Dad has 4, 4 foot long gashes in the driveway! We finally took the torsion bars off to lower the front end and I backed it in no problem. Dad has already got people knocking on the door for driveway repair.

Mom and Dad look great especially for their ages. smile

We visited a number of museums in Ottawa. Jacob got his fill of old fashion trains and dinosaurs. We also did a very nice Parliament hill tour and a cruise down the canal. We topped it off to a trip to the Smith Falls chocolate factory where they have amazing machines that “poop chocolate”.

It was a sad day to have to leave but we sure had a great time with everyone. $1500 in gas but it was worth it.

I will get some pics up soon. We are in PEI right now as Laura Jayne’s grandfather is quite ill.
