Jacob Update
Jacob had a great day yesterday. He had his umbilical chord IV removed and he can now sleep on his belly. This makes it easier for him to breathe and he is now off oxygen and is just breathing air. His heart and respiratory rates are also down to better levels because of this. They expect to be able to start feeding him more now that he can put some energy into digestion and growing.
They also shut off the special lights for jaundice since his levels are way down. Once again we can see his face. Laura Jayne and I got to hold him last night outside of the incubator and it was a great experience. He recognizes both of us and opens his eyes to look into yours. They took some pictures of us that I will try and get up today for you to see.
Tomorrow they have to put a new central line into his left arm for IV and feeding. It is minor surgery and they have to give him a mild narcotic to ease the pain. However, this should last quite a while and be more comfortable for him in the end.
