Zach is doing really well at hockey. Check out the story below that just made headline News
The Salmon Arm Silvertips Senior Atom Rep. hockey team completed their regular season with a combined record of 40 victories 4 losses & 3 ties. The team traveled to Kamloops for the B.C. Interior Atom Rep. playoffs from March 9th to – 11th. All 20 teams from the Interior were in attendance with games over all three days. Due to the strength of their regular season the Salmon Arm squad received a first round bye with their first game set for Friday night. The team faced off against a team from Osoyoos / Oliver who put up little resistance for the Salmon Arm powerhouse, final score 12 – 0 Salmon Arm.
Saturday saw Salmon Arm matched up against Kelowna in a very hard fought battle. After a early Kelowna lead the team fought back in the second & third periods, led by the scoring of Colton McCarthy, to come away with a much deserved 5 – 3 victory & a berth in the semi final on Sunday.
The time change meant a early morning for Salmon Arm in their semi final game against Penticton. Once again the team started off slowly, giving up the first goal but the team came on as the game progressed & by the end of the second were in charge & well on their way to another victory, final score 8 – 3 Salmon Arm. The offence was provided by the soft hands of Zach Fournier with 4 goals.
Sunday afternoon was the ultimate showdown in the Championship game, Salmon Arm vs Vernon. The two teams have met on a few occasions this season with the games very close, the final game in Kamloops was no exception. The team traded goals in the first two periods tied 2 – 2 going into the third period. After frantic action on both ends Carson Bolduc of Salmon Arm hammered in a rebound with 5 minutes left in regulation play. Vernon came on late with many chances but Salmon Arm turned them aside, & held on to win the B.C. Interior Atom Rep. hockey Championships by a final score of 3 –2.
Solid defensive play was show throughout the tournament by all Salmon Arm players but none bigger than the efforts of their two goalies, Adam Luchkanych & Darian Paynton.
All players should be proud of the effort they showed over the season & in their run to the Championship!
