Jacob gained 20 grams last night. Very good for what he had to go through yesterday with the central line issue.  He had his cut down procedure today.  They made an incision in his groin and tied off one of the veins and then inserted the catheter into the new vein.  The procedure went very well and the x-rays revealed that the positioning was very good.  They should be able to feed him better through this and also stop poking IV’s into all those other places.  He handled the operation amazingly well.  He didn’t cry when they were performing the operation and in true boy fashion peed on the nurse who tried to take his x-ray!  That will
teach ‘em.

The x-rays also revealed that his lungs are doing quite well.  They gave him a diuretic to enable him to get rid of the congestion in his lungs.  This is a natural part of growing and he is dealing well with it.  They may also have to give him a small blood transfusion soon since his haemoglobins are down a bit.  They would add about 15 cc of blood to him AFTER they thoroughly check the blood for anything nasty including cold viruses etc..
